Florian Thauvin showed Newcastle fans a previously unseen side to his game on Tuesday night.
Sitting on the bench, the winger was introduced in the 59th minute of Marseille’s Ligue 1 away match at Montpellier.
Making his ‘debut’ for the French club on his return, only nine minutes after his introduction Marseille took the lead through N’Koudou, the goal that would prove to be the winner.
Florian Thauvin celebrated by launching himself at an opposition player (watch it below) only seconds after the restart and got a straight red.
Obviously they must be psyching the players up at Marseille because last season Remy Cabella only picked up one yellow at Newcastle and it was the same with Florian Thauvin in his brief spell on Tyneside – only the one yellow.
However, as well as Thauvin’s straight red, in the closing stages of last night’s win, Cabella picked up his 11th yellow card of the season already.
PSG may have already got the league sewn up but last night’s win lifts Marseille to within only three points of third position, meaning that if they can put any kind of run together with the help of Cabella, Thauvin and…Steven Fletcher, Champions League football is a real possibility.
Florian Thauvin will now miss the visit of PSG on Sunday due to suspension.
After the game, the winger blamed his sending off after only 10 minutes on the adrenaline pumping through his system and a desire to give ‘maximum effort’.
Enjoy his challenge below.
