Aleksandar Mitrovic named in official Premier League team of the week

After the excellent team performance but narrow win (in terms of goals) over West Brom, match winner Aleksandar Mitrovic has made the official Premier League team of the week (see full team below for matchday 25).

The Serbian striker’s all round player has looked much better overall in recent times and on Saturday he put a very well taken goal on the end of it.

It was Jonjo Shelvey who put through a superb ball for the goal and he has dominated most of the headlines after pulling the strings for the second home match/win in a row.

The likes of Harry Redknapp and Garth Crooks both included the former Swansea midfielder in their Premier League team of the weekend. However, it is good to see Mitrovic getting recognition for his improvement.

The general consensus amongst Newcastle fans appears to be that too much responsibility/expectation was thrust on the shoulders of the then 20 year old forward, who up to that point had played in far inferior leagues to the Premier League.

Hopefully the former Anderlecht striker can now build on this match winning goal against West Brom and finish the season in some style.

EA Sports Player Performer Index (PPI) is the official Premier League system using a comprehensive range of statistics to provide objective analysis as to which players are playing the best and why.

The EA Sports performance index uses six different criteria:

Winning – points are awarded for time on the pitch in a team that wins.

Player performance – points go to those who have a positive influence on a winning performance (shots on target, tackles, clearances, saves etc) while points are taken off for negatives such as shots off target or red/yellow cards.

Time on pitch – the longer a player is on the pitch the more points awarded.

Goals scored – self-explanatory.

Assists – credit for whoever on the scoring team last touches the ball on the before the scorer.

Clean sheet– the whole team is given credit for this but points are allocated by position in the team, so goalkeeper gets biggest share, then defenders and so on.
