As usual, Aleksandar Mitrovic put everything into his celebrations after score the vital goal that beat West Brom.

The Serbian striker struck shortly after Cheick Tiote had a long-range effort disallowed, a ‘goal’ that was almost a carbon copy of the one against Manchester City a couple of years ago.

Mitrovic picked out Cheick Tiote for special mention in his post-match interview, saying it was important the midfielder was back because he ‘gives the team balance’.

The centre-forward was played through by Shelvey and instead of snatching it, he instead showed he may be relaxing a bit more and calmly stroked it past Ben Foster in the West Brom goal.

Alan Shearer described the goal as massive, both for the team and for the personal confidence of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The extensive celebrations were explained by the striker. Mitrovic saying that when he scores his head is filled with all kinds of emotions that spill out.

One particular extra this time was the big softie sucking his thumb, the Serbian forward explaining that his girlfriend is due to give birth next month and he was dedicating that goal and all future ones to ‘Little Mitro’!

Aleksandar Mitrovic talking to NUFC TV:

“A massive game and a massive three points. After a bad game against Everton we needed to prepare ourselves to forget that game and to do everything we could to win. We showed we learn something from that game and we got a very important three points.

“It is much much easier when you play in front of 52,000 of your fans and they were amazing today, like always.

“I think this is the way we need to play – try to score goals earlier, press higher. Of course we have very good wingers and also important that Cheick Tiote was back, he gives balance to this team.”

‘How important was the goal for you?’

“I work hard and I have a few chances the last three games but they didn’t come in. I was disappointed but I keep working and tonight I score.

“It’s good for me I score but more important is that we played really good football, like a team, and we win this massive game.”

‘Great celebrations, what was going through your mind?’

“Everything!

“I don’t know how to explain it. When you score goals you have some special feeling, like mixed feelings; you are angry… you are happy… you are tired… you are disappointed… I just want to put everything out there.”

‘Then you started sucking your thumb…?’

“It’s a…little Mitro!

“A baby, my girlfriend is pregnant and in one month, in March, I hope we will get a young Mitro.”

‘So will all your goals in the future be dedicated to him?’

“Yeah, Yeah, for sure.”
