What West Ham fans had to say about the Newcastle game – Interesting!
West Ham fans travelled to Tyneside with hopes of top four but Newcastle United had other ideas.
Carrying on from the second half fightback against Manchester United, Newcastle were fast out the traps and swarmed all over the Hammers in the opening half hour.
Jonjo Shelvey pulled the strings and Newcastle scored two beautifully crafted goals.
The 3,000+ West Ham fans never knew what hit them.
A better second half for the visitors but the home side showed plenty of resolve as the Hammers tightemed the screw.
A hard fought but deserved victory for the Magpies in the end.
We searched out the reaction of the West Ham fans via one of their top message boards Knees Up Mother Brown.
‘Not to be taken lightly this one, they seem to have grown in confidence recently and will be well up for this.’
‘First visit to St James Park also, really looking forward to this one as staying up there the weekend.
Where do people tend to drink before the match? Bars and Pubs are not in shortly supply around there that’s for sure!’
‘Newcastle don’t have a bad team but I don’t rate McClaren so think we stand a reasonable chance and a team with Coloccini and Dummett at the back is there to be exploited.’
‘The only player they have that I wouldn’t mind in my squad is that Wijnaldum fella. Think he’s been excellent. £12m on Shelvey was a classic panic buy, considering we paid less for Payet. Good player, but not in my opinion a game changer.’
‘Damn it damn it son of a bitch. I didn’t think Jonjo Shelvey was THAT good.’
‘2 things are certain in life, our midfield will be non-existent for 45 minutes and our midfield will play good the next 45 minutes.’
‘I’ll be getting my Sports Direct jacket now then…’
‘Shelvey is destroying us here.’
‘Need to pick up Janmaat ……he’s their out ball.’
‘Wow, pot shot pinball…..must be great fun for the barcodes fans today….’
‘Looked like a forearm (from Shelvey) to the chest. Valencia rolling around like he’s broken his nose. Poor.’
‘Suicidal back pass and Jellyfish rounds their keeper……2-1’
‘It’s a shame as Newcastle’s confidence is brittle and had we gone at them from the start it could have been a different story.’
‘It’s massively painful to think where we’d be had we not dropped points against dog **** teams like Newcastle.’
‘I think this is our poorest result. In spite of that, credit to Newcastle. They are a side who will get stronger over the coming months, and will be far away from relegation come may.’
‘Newcastle were better than us in every department – and they should have scored a few more than the 2 they did.’
‘We need someone dare I say like Shelvey, someone to get the ball ten yards inside our half, take it ten yards inside theirs and find a decent pass.’
‘Newcastle played well and bossed the first half. I think they’ve been unlucky with their results recently and wasn’t surprised they won today. Bilic needs to get our team switched on first half.’
‘Newcastle are in a false position. They are a pretty decent team, with some very good players. They are certainly not archetypal relegation fodder. Can see them finishing fairly safe from the relegation zone.’
‘Always a tough place to go regardless of the league position. I thought their 2nd goal was top drawer, excellent pass, class touch and delivery!’
‘Well Newcastle are a stronger outfit than the table shows, they have spent quite a bit on players, Wijnaldum, £14.5m, Mitrovic £13m, Shelvey £12m, all costing more than our most expensive player on the pitch yesterday, Payet. Shelvey making debut playing out of his skin, point to prove after Swansea.’
‘Seemed a bit lively when we came out of the ground and there seemed to be plenty of “banter” going on between rival fans.’
‘We looked tired yesterday and Newcastle just wanted it more. That’s the big picture.’
‘Quick thank you to everyone who helped me Saturday after a bad fall (Home and Away fans) on the Chinatown cobbles. Luckily no bones were broken and just ligament damage in my shoulder and right ankle.’
