Surprisingly Newcastle fans are rated fourth top for being entertained this season…
Newcastle fans are ‘enjoying’ yet another chaotic season, now stumbling towards its conclusion with Premier League safety very much on a knife edge.
However, the near fifty thousand who have turned up at St James Park every other week, may be surprised to learn that they have once again been lucky to see more entertainment than all but three other sets of supporters.
That is if you measure entertainment by the number of goals on show.
That’s right, Newcastle fans have watched a total of 37 goals fly into the net at St James Park, with United scoring 19 and the opposition 18.
Only Everton (46), Manchester City (45) and Chelsea (39) supporters have seen more so far.
Whilst I would never ever ever have any sympathy for Manchester United fans, you can kind of see why they might be a little unhappy this season.
Spoilt more than any other set of supporters in the Premier League era by both trophies and the entertainment served up, they are rock bottom in this table, having seen only 17 goals at Old Trafford.
Little comfort for them that they have easily the lowest (5) total of goals conceded to the opposition at home.
Interesting as well that Arsenal, usually tops for entertaining attacking football, are so low – joint third bottom having seen only 23 goals (16 for them and 7 for the opposition. Though maybe no coincidence that this occurs in a year when they are looking more likely than ever, to actually win the title.
For Newcastle fans though, we can safely say ‘The Entertainers’ are back…
The stats were put together by Sky Sports and the figure before each club is how many goals have been scored at their stadium in Premier League matches this season, then the other two figures are the number scored by the home team and the opposition ones.
