The much talked about ‘friendly’ derby between Newcastle and Sunderland took place at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

With Craig Hope of The Mail reporting that United got hammered 6-0 by their local rivals.

The motivation for the behind closed doors game appeared to be to give fringe players time on the pitch, though there were also claims that it could have been used to showcase players who could potentially be sold in this transfer window.

The scorers for the mackems are reported to be a hat-trick for Watmore, two for Fletcher and another for Rodwell.

Rolando Aarons, Emmanuel Riviere, Steven Taylor, Yoan Gouffan, Jamaal Lascelles, Sylvain Marveaux and Karl Darlow all lined up for Newcastle, with Marveaux leaving the pitch early with what appeared to be his latest injury.

Reports are as yet unconfirmed that the Sunderland club shop is taking orders for ‘seven in a row’ merchandise.
