Sky Sports say Newcastle now in talks with AS Roma striker and Atletico Madrid left-back

Guilherme Siqueira and Seydou Doumbia are set to follow Jonjo Shelvey, Andros Townsend and Henri Saivet to Newcastle before the transfer window closes, according to Sky Sports.

They report on late Friday afternoon that Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian left-back Guilherme Siqueira (pictured above) is ‘on the verge of agreeing’ to come to St James Park on an initial loan until the end of the season.

Seydou Doumbia is a player who has been linked a number of times previously with Newcastle and scored 63 goals in 83 league games for CSKA Moscow before AS Roma bought him for around £11m last January.

The striker didn’t settle in Italy and has spent the last few months back on loan at CSKA Moscow, where he scored 11 goals in 17 starts, including six goals in the Champions League.

Most Newcastle fans would agree that a striker and left-back were the biggest necessities and with the £28m or so spent so far, initial loan deals were the most likely route for any other arrivals.

At 28 (Doumbia) and 29 (Siqueira) they are older than the average Mike Ashley signing but experienced signings, even just on loan, are ideal in Newcastle’s current position (if they are any good of course…).

Sky Sports:

‘Sky Sources understand Newcastle are on the verge of agreeing to take Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira on loan until the summer.

Siqueira, 29, has made seven appearances for Atletico this season under Diego Simeone.’

‘Sky Sources also understand Newcastle have made an enquiry about the possibility of taking Roma striker Seydou Doumbia on loan until the summer.’
