Newcastle attempts in balance to dump Emmanuel Riviere & Yoan Gouffran back to France

Newcastle United are desperately trying to move Emmanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran back to France in this transfer window.

With both players clearly not up to Premier League standard and new arrivals pushing them even further down the pecking order, the club are at last taking decisive action to move them out.

In their last 79 matches combined for Newcastle in the Premier League, the two players have contributed three goals between them.

L’Equipe report that Newcastle offered Emmanuel Riviere to Lille but were insistent that they had to buy him, while the French club were only willing to take him on loan to see if he was good enough before making any kind of offer.

Lille have been prepared to walk away from the deal but now L’Equipe say that Newcastle are having to accept that nobody will buy the striker and could be prepared to let him go on loan after all. Negotiations are said to be continuing, with presumably discussions revolving around how much of Riviere’s wages Newcastle will have to subsidise.

As for Yoan Gouffran, La Provence say that Newcastle have been hawking the former Bordeaux player around various French clubs but Marseille are the latest to knock back the player, either to buy or on loan.

With Florian Thauvin passing his Marseille medical this morning and Seydou Doumbia claimed to be going through his own medical for a Newcastle move today, this is not your typical January transfer window for Newcastle United…
