An £8m offer for Cheick Tiote has been accepted by Newcastle United according to reports tonight.
Newcastle’s preferred media partner, The Mirror, say that their information is that United have agreed to sell the midfielder to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.
The report states that the Chinese club have also agreed a three year contract with the 29 year Ivory Coast international and he will travel there next week to take a medical and complete the deal.
The Mirror claim that the contract will see Cheick Tiote receiving £70,000 a week, which they say is £10,000 more than he’s on at St James Park.
They say Steve McClaren would have liked to keep hold of the former FC Twente player but the Head Coach accepted he had to be sold to help fund the purchases of Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey.
Shanghai Greenland Shenhua already have Demba Ba in their books, plus Tim Cahill the former Everton striker.
Like a lot of his team-mates, Cheick Tiote has struggled to ever repeat consistently his form of the 2011/12 season when Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League.
A run of injuries and poor form have seen Tiote start only 17 Premier League matches in the last 20 months, with the Manchester United match on Tuesday now looking likely to have been his last appearance in a black and white shirt.
