Mike Williamson agrees Wolves move after turning down Sheffield Wednesday – Reports
Mike Williamson has agreed to join Wolves after they fought off competition from Sheffield Wednesday, according to reports on Wednesday night.
Sky Sports say that they understand that the Newcastle centre-back has agreed an 18 month deal at Molineux.
The broadcaster says that Mike Williamson (pictured above when on his earlier loan spell) chose Wolves over a rival offer from Sheffield Wednesday, no doubt his successful loan spell at the Midlands club being a factor in his decision.
The Owls are currently sixth and in the play-off spots, whilst Wolves are in 12th – eight points off Sheffield Wednesday.
Sky say that Williamson will go through his medical on Thursday and that the fee is £250,000.
This deal follows one yesterday for another fringe player, Shane Ferguson, who agreed to join Millwall – also after a productive loan spell.
No doubt Newcastle will be keen to move out a few more unwanted players before Monday night’s 11pm deadline.
Earlier this evening Newcastle confirmed that Andros Townsend had now officially joined United.
