The goals and assists of Newcastle’s Henri Saivet – Video special

Henri Saivet has been taking his medical on Tyneside ahead of being confirmed as Newcastle’s first signing of the transfer window.

A fee of around £5m has been reported and a five and a half year contract, if media claims are correct as to the details.

What about the player though?

Henri Saivet isn’t somebody who many people would have heard about and like you, I initially went straight to google his name and come up with the various info.

The 25 year old has made his name in recent years as a right-sided midfield player for Bordeaux.

Returning this season after an injury ravaged 2014/15, he has been moved inside to the centre of midfield from his usual position on the right hand side.

In the previous two seasons (2012/13 & 2013/14) Henri Saivet scored 14 goals from 53 Ligue 1 starts (plus 14 as a sub), a very decent return from midfield.

Said to have caught the eye of Premier League teams this season when he faced Liverpool in the Europa League, the video compilation below is well worth a look.

The footage is from before last season and like all youtube compilations has to be treated with caution, as obviously they do tend to only show the positives!

What it does suggest though is that if he can translate his form to the Premier League, Newcastle are bringing in somebody who is far more natural in creating and scoring goals than the likes of Colback, Tiote and Anita.

The footage shows him scoring the odd long range effort, quite a few goals with his head in open play and set-pieces, scoring from free-kicks and creating goals with some clever passes.

Have a look and see for yourself but I must admit I’m a bit more positive after watching this goals and assist footage, although it is a massive ask to expect Henri Saivet to come in and instantly produce.
