Gini Wijnaldum rated best signing in the Premier League this season

Gini Wijnaldum has been rated the best summer signing in the Premier League this season.

With nine goals and four assists already, the former PSV man has been an outstanding success.

Last season’s Dutch league player of the year, Wijnaldum is surely proof that when you buy quality, £14m can still be a bargain price.

Another goal and an assist on Saturday was the perfect afternoon for Gini Wijnaldum and cemented his place as the best signing of last summer.

Sky Sports used their fantasy football ratings to evaluate the contributions of all the players who joined Premier League clubs.

The big bonus being that rather than somebody just picking their subjective choice of player, this is at least based on a pre-determined set of criteria.

As you can see below, Gini Wijnaldum is a long way ahead of second placed Petr Cech, who himself has been superb for the Gunners.

Newcastle were linked with Andrew Ayew for a long time and despite Swansea struggling along with Newcastle, he makes it into an impressive third spot.

The best signings of the season so far

115 points – Gini Wijnaldum (Newcastle)

104 points – Petr Cech (Arsenal)

98 points – Andre Ayew (Swansea)

94 points – Kevin de Bruyne (Man City)

86 points – Raheem Sterling (Man City)

83 points – Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham)

82 points – Anthony Martial (Man Utd)

80 points – Christian Benteke (Liverpool)

79 points – Dimitri Payer (West Ham)

79 points – Glen johnson (Stoke)

Sky Sports write-up on Gini Wijnaldum:

‘Newcastle have endured a poor first half to the 2015/16 season, but the performances of Wijnaldum – signed from Eredivisie champions PSV – have been a rare highlight for the club’s supporters.

A stunning four-goal haul in a 6-2 win over Norwich has been the standout moment so far, but Wijnaldum has nine goals in total, as well as four assists for the struggling Magpies.

Could the Dutchman be the difference for Steve McClaren’s men and help them to safety in the second half of the season?’
