Ayoze Perez talks about why Newcastle lost to Arsenal

Ayoze Perez has been reflecting on a game that slipped away from Newcastle’s grasp.

A much improved display saw Newcastle more than match Arsenal but still come away with nothing.

A mixed day for Ayoze Perez as he was moved to the left hand side, with Wijnaldum having a free role in the middle, the Spaniard producing some great build up play at times and Wijnaldum should have scored after Perez set him away early in the second half.

However, he did go to sleep on the Arsenal winner, failing to react as Koscielny scored from close in.

Just like the rest of us, it is the lack of goals that is holding Newcastle back according to Ayoze Perez.

Only Swansea and Villa have scored less than Newcastle’s 19 goals and it is now three matches without a goal (and point).

However, Ayoze Perez believes that it will be a more confident Newcastle United who face Watford in the FA Cup next Saturday, with added belief from the display at The Emirates.

Of course, whether Perez or any of the other 10 starters v Arsenal will face Watford, is a whole different question.

Ayoze Perez talking to the official club tv channel:

“We are disappointed with the result because we played really well, maybe we deserved at least one point.

“We created a few chances and we didn’t take them again and that’s why…

“With this type of team (Arsenal) you have to take the chance, in this stadium when you have kind of chance you have to take them.”

‘The last three games we have lost by one goal, does that show there is not much wrong and we just need to start scoring goals?’

“Yes it is key, Premier League. You have to score to get points and we haven’t scored in a few games and we have to work on that.”

‘Not many teams will play as well as Newcastle did at this stadium?’

“It is not easy to play like we did today but we didn’t take points. A good performance but we have to take care of the little things that change a game.”

‘Watford in the cup, a tough game but if we play like that, maybe a chance?’

“Yes, this is the way, this is the best way to get there and to win the games. Another away game and a tough game – but after this (Arsenal) game we are more confident.”
