Andy Gray in surprising review of Newcastle United v Manchester United
Andy Gray has been predicting the outcome of the Newcastle United v Manchester United match tonight.
Very surprisingly, the TV pundit is as positive about Newcastle United as he is negative about the visitors.
Despite being fifth in the Premier League and only three points off a Champions League spot, Louis van Gaal has been savaged by his critics, mainly to do with the lack of goals and perceived negative style of play.
In the last six games, Manchester United have scored more than one goal on only a single occasion.
Andy Gray says that if he had ‘a few bob’ (wouldn’t mind being a scottish tenner behind him) and wanted to have a bet, then he would be putting it on Newcastle.
Gray says that Manchester United are ‘really struggling at the moment’ but in contrast talks of Newcastle being ‘really up for this game’ and is full of praise for tightening up defensively.
Whilst Newcastle have cut the number of goals, the fact remains they have kept only one clean sheet in the last nine matches and only Villa and Sunderland have conceded more.
As for scoring at the other end, Newcastle haven’t scored in the last 435 minutes. However, Andy Gray’s prediction of 1-0 to Newcastle could be a likely outcome IF Newcastle can get the first goal.
Andy Gray talking to Paddy Power:
“I have to say if I have a few bob and I want to bet on this game then I’m looking at Newcastle to win at home against a Manchester United team which is really struggling at the moment. That price stands out like a beacon to me and I think there’ll be plenty of takers this Tuesday.
“Since getting hammered 6-1 (ED: Was actually 5-1 but could have been 7 or 8!) by Crystal Palace, no Premier League side has scored more than one goal against them. They’ve really tightened up defensively.
“They’ve become miserly and they’re also creating lots of chances so I feel that something is going to happen for them. Newcastle will really be up for this game.
“I know I should be sating Manchester United but that’s largely because of their name but it’s hard to back them with much conviction the way they’re playing right now, the players are really flat.
“I can see Newcastle winning this game and I’m going for them to do it 1-0.”
