Only 32% of Newcastle fans believe a striker will be signed in January transfer window

With one week left of the January transfer window remaining we asked on Monday: ‘Will Newcastle United sign a striker?’ in this January transfer window.

With only one win in the last eight matches and Newcastle only scoring more than one goal in four of the last 15 games, the need looks acute to bring in extra goals to the team.

Steve McClaren having praised Aleksandar Mitrovic for his contribution outside the box but admitted that he is struggling to put the ball in the back of the net.

The Head Coach saying the responsibility lies with the whole team to score goals but realistically, apart from Gini Wijnaldum and Ayoze Perez who else can you see realistically scoring a reasonable number of goals?

Thanks to the thousands of supporters who voted and the result of the poll was:

68% of Newcastle fans don’t believe a striker will be signed in this January transfer window

32% think a new forward will arrive at St James Park before 11pm on 1 February 2016

Tuesday morning has seen widespread media reports that Andros Townsend WILL sign for Newcastle this week, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino having pressed Daniel Levy to accept a compromise fee, so that he can strengthen the Spurs squad for a title push.

However, despite Monday bringing claims of a willingness of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette to now listen to what Newcastle can offer him, Newcastle supporters are still sceptical as to whether he or anybody else will be brought in to supplement the current Newcastle striker force.

If Townsend does sign, then the hope/expectation will be that there’ll be a better service to Mitrovic and extract more from him, especially goals.

However, Newcastle fans will wonder why when we are 25 days into the January transfer window, has there not been more urgency shown in bringing in a striker, as without another goalscorer in the team, Mike Ashley is playing a dangerous game with potential relegation.
