Rumours of dramatic changes for Newcastle team v Liverpool

Most supporters have this week been hoping for dramatic changes to the Newcastle team v Liverpool today.

However, if rumours circulating today become reality, there could be a very different look to the team but not necessarily with the changes fans were fancying.

Rather than the likes of Fabricio Coloccini and Moussa Sissoko (amongst others) paying the price for some uninspiring and gutless efforts, it is two other players claimed to be dropping to the bench.

The rumours sweeping social media are that as well as Aleksandar Mitrovic not getting a recall to help shake things up, Steve McClaren is going to drop Gini Wijnaldum and Ayoze Perez.

No suggestions of exactly what the team would be in the event of that happening but presumably Siem de Jong would be a likely starter.

Perez of course was the first one to be sacrificed at Crystal Palace, with McClaren dragging him off at half-time to go with a five man defence despite being 3-1 down.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Head Coach maybe giving that five man defence a try today as part of his changes, although injuries to Williamson and Lascelles leave McClaren a little short of numbers to carry that out. If Kevin Mbabu is fit enough to start, he is versatile enough to play anywhere across the back line and would be a popular addition.

Not long to wait now to see whether these rumours have been close to the mark…
