Newcastle United are sending their young stars to Berwick Rangers for a friendly between Christmas and New Year.

Peter Beardsley’s youngsters, with potentially one or two out of favour first team squad players, will travel to Berwick Rangers on Tuesday 29 December for a 7.30pm kick-off.

The postponement of the scheduled NUFC Under 21s match against Everton tonight due to a waterlogged pitch, meant that a full month would pass between fixtures, with a visit to Aston Villa on 11 January the next league game coming up.

Admission is £5 to the match with Under 16s admitted free.

Berwick Rangers announcing the news with this statement:

‘Berwick Rangers are delighted to welcome Peter Beardsley and his Newcastle United u-21 squad to Shielfield Park for a friendly fixture on Tuesday 29th December.

Berwick manager John Coughlin is hoping to get an opportunity to see more of the Borderers’ young Development League squad in action, and several will line up alongside more established ‘first teamers’ to face Newcastle’s stars of the future.

Admission to the match is £5 at the turnstiles, with under-16’s admitted free of charge. Season tickets are not valid. Kick off is at 7.30 pm.

Fans can also watch the game for £10 from the Sponsors Box, with a half-time buffet included – this must be booked with the Club in advance, so contact Lyndsay Flannigan on 07757 723093.’
