Another centre-back injured and McClaren says kids included to get 18 players v Liverpool
Steve McClaren has revealed that after recalling Mike Williamson due to a hamstring injury to Jamaal Lascelles, that Williamson now has a…hamstring injury.
Not sure what happens at Newcastle’s training ground but the Head Coach has said at his Liverpool press conference that Mike Williamson has ‘tweaked his hamstring’ and will now go for a scan.
The number of injuries that are picked up in training, it sounds like the commitment is a little different to what we see on a matchday…
When commenting on this latest injury, Steve McClaren says that as he assembles his 18 man squad to face Liverpool, he will be ‘including a couple of kids’ to make up the numbers.
Presumably one of those he refers to is defender Jamie Sterry who was on the bench at Crystal Palace, though he is 20 years old now but hasn’t as yet played in the first team.
Fingers crossed that one of the 18 man squad will include another ‘kid’ Kevin Mbabu, who is also 20, but has been missing through injury in recent weeks.
“Including a couple of kids, we’ve got 18 players for Sunday. Williamson has tweaked his hamstring and will have a scan.”
