Media pundit Jason Roberts has been picking his team of the season so far.

A Premier League full of surprises in the sixteen rounds of games up to this point, Roberts has chosen one Newcastle player in his team.

The player turned pundit was asked by Breathe Sport to choose his top eleven and this is what he had to say:

“I’m going to start in goal with David de Gea, only 12 goals conceded so far and playing well for a Manchester United that are not performing at their levels.

“In defence I’m going for Tony Alderweireld – one of the signings of the season so far, with Chris Smalling, then Kyle Walker on the right and Kolarov on the left.

“In midfield, Delle Alli showing the transition from MK Dons to the Premier League is easy with his form so far. Dimitri Payet would also be in my midfield, alongside my midfielder of the season so far, Mesut Ozil – 13 assists already.

“I’m going to go three up front with Gini Wijnaldum on the left hand side, with Leicester’s partnership of Janie Vardy with 15 goals already and Riyad Mahrez’s 11 goals this season. Not just a threat (Leicester) to the top four but possibly for the title as well.”

Newcastle were credited with strong interest in both Delli Alli and Dimitri Payet before they joined Spurs and West Ham respectively. Adding those two players to the current United team would be interesting.

Whilst Gini Wijnaldum’s all round play is very decent most of the time, by far his biggest talent is the ability to arrive in the box and finish off chances.

With seven goals already for a very negative set-up at Newcastle United under Steve McClaren, you wonder just how many he would score in a team that is built to play attacking football and get at the opposition.

Let’s hope we see that at St James Park very soon…

Who would be in your Premier League team of the season so far?
