Andy Gray has taken a look at the Saturday teatime match as Newcastle host Everton.
The former Sky Sports presenter says it is ‘extraordinary’ how positive everybody has been about the scousers when they have only won two of their last 10 in the Premier League.
In actual fact, Everton have only won one more game (five) than Newcastle United, though they are six places higher in the table.
The main reason that they aren’t better placed is the same thing holding Tottenham back, the last team Newcastle beat.
Both Spurs and Everton have drawn eight Premier League matches already, more than any other club, often doing so after throwing away winning positions. This was the case against both Norwich and Bournemouth (two up with 10 minutes to play) recently – if they had converted just half of those eight draws into wins, they would be in the top four…
Despite only winning five in 17, Andy Gray has predicted a’ good performance’ and a 2-1 win for the visitors – who he used to play for, whilst he describes Newcastle as being a ‘big doubt’ for him.
Andy Gray writing for Paddy Power:
“Everton have only won two league games in their last ten which is extraordinary when you think how positive everyone has been about them. They’re actually struggling.
“They’ve drawn too many games and they’re not winning enough but Newcastle are a big doubt for me.
“I think Everton will give a good performance and win 2-1.”
