The Premier League recent form table sees Newcastle in slightly better health than the overall Premier League table.
United are in 15th place over the course of the last six games, with two wins and a draw giving them seven points from the last 18.
The wheels have come off a little bit for our old friend Alan Pardew, who after picking up 12 points from 21 in the opening seven league games, has only picked up seven points, like Newcastle, from these last six matches.
The last of those games saw a defeat at home to Sunderland, a disastrous result for both Palace and Newcastle.
Like all statistics you can look at them different ways and before that mackem defeat, Palace had beaten Liverpool away and drawn with Man Utd, not bad form.
Even the game before that was a one goal defeat at Leicester, which as we know is no disgrace with the form teh Foxes are in.
Closer to home, Newcastle’s results and performances can only be described a chaotic.
A mixture of the last ditch defending against Bournemouth, the goalscoring touch against Norwich and the decent display when Stoke visited, would likely be more than enough to get something at Crystal Palace.
All of those qualities were missing against Leicester so we simply live in hope, if not expectation.
