Poll results now in – How confident are Newcastle fans that relegation will be avoided
On Thursday, we asked Newcastle fans the question, how confident are you that Newcastle will avoid relegation?
Rather than simply asking Newcastle fans a simple yes or no, we thought it made more sense to ask you how you felt the balance was at the minute, what the odds were of it happening.
The reality for most of us is that you can’t really say for sure at this point that Newcastle United will definitely be safe or definitely…knackered.
So after only one win in 11 games but with what look more promising performances in recent games, how sure were you that Newcastle won’t be relegated?
The results (Our thanks to all those who voted):
100% – 17%
90% – 9%
80% – 11%
70% – 10%
60% – 8%
50% – 12%
40% – 4%
30% – 8%
20% – 7%
10% – 6%
It was a close run thing but 55% of Newcastle fans felt it was more likely (60% or better) that the club won’t face relegation.
Only 17% were totally (100%) convinced that this would be the case, whilst 8% are sure there is no (0%) hope.
The overall figures though show that the vast majority (75%) think that at the minute it is all up in the air, there is no definite grounds for being able to either relax or throw the towel in.
The reality is that at the minute it appears that the relegation spots are likely to be filled by the strugglers of recent years such as Sunderland, Villa & Newcastle and/or promoted clubs Bournemouth & Norwich.
Of course others can drop into the relegation fight and obviously any club that puts together a few wins, including Newcastle, can breathe a lot easier.
We may revisit this again if there is a definite result either way today against Bournemouth, see how fans then think about the possibility of relegation.
I think it is a really pivotal game and a win would see Newcastle climb out of the relegation zone and convince many doubters that things can improve.
On the other hand, defeat could well send many fans the other way.
