Newcastle’s Ivan Toney proves a ‘real threat’ and helps Barnsley into semi-finals
Ivan Toney has made a great start to his loan spell at Barnsley.
The Yorkshire club had lost their last six matches and are third bottom of League One.
Tuesday night saw some light relief as the Newcastle loan striker helped Barnsley into the area semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Manager Lee Johnson praised Ivan Toney after his debut, saying that he was a ‘real threat’ until fading later in the game.
After conceding first, Barnsley came back to beat York City 2-1 and move into the Semi-Finals which take place early December, before an area final in January.
The competition ends in April when the two area winners meet at Wembley.
How much of that Ivan Toney will see, depends on what happens after his initial 28 day loan period.
Barnsley Manager Lee Johnson:
“Ivan Toney was a real threat first half, he faded a little bit second half but you expect that.
“I’d love to deliver and lead this team out in front of 40,000 Barnsley fans at Wembley.”
