Moussa Sissoko ‘I am happy at Newcastle….and aspire to go further and higher’
Moussa Sissoko has done yet another interview in France, this time with TV channel L’Equipe 21.
Remember, this is the player who in one of his other recent interviews told French media that he didn’t really liked to speak to the media, preferring to be quiet in the background.
It is admirable that Moussa is overcoming this natural shyness…
When Newcastle are in such a rubbish position and playing so badly, you have to ask exactly what purpose it serves when United’s ‘star’ player feels the need to do yet another interview in France, despite hating doing them so much…
Speaking to L’equipe 21, Sissoko says that he is happy at Newcastle and it is a club where ‘he can flourish’, one where he gets ‘a lot of playing time’.
Which simply revisits what was said in the summer, the player and his agents making clear that the midfielder was staying to ensure he made the French Euros squad, as Didier Deschamps had made clear any prospective squad members had to be playing regular football. It was also made clear in the summer that Moussa Sissoko would be revisiting his position next summer and there is little doubt for most Newcastle fans that he will move on then…if there is any interest.
Moussa Sissoko states that he wants to go ‘further and higher’ in his career but judging on the last two years and indeed the last two games (Bournemouth and Leicester), he is going nowhere fast.
Newcastle’s best hope of getting Moussa Sissoko to perform, could well rest on just how much he wants his place for France next summer.
The fact he was left out of the last two friendlies against Germany and England could be the major wake-up call he needs, only getting the last eight minutes at Wembley as a late replacement for Schneiderlin.
It didn’t exactly inspire him on Saturday against Leicester but it is in Moussa Sissoko’s own hands to creat a win-win situation rather than a lose-lose one.
If he turns it on this season at Newcastle and then leaves for a big fee in the summer, then it will be job done and that money can be invested in hopefully somebody who really wants to be here.
The alternative is a pretty miserable situation for both Sissoko and especially the Newcastle fans.
Moussa Sissoko talking to L’equipe 21 (translated by Get French Football News):
“I am happy to be at Newcastle United.
“Even if the results are not great at the moment, it is a club where I can flourish and where I have a lot of playing time.
“I am lucky to play in England. It is there where I have always wanted to play because it is in this league where I can flourish the most with my abilities.
“My aim was to become a professional footballer and I got the chance to sign my professional contract and play very earlier.
“I have always had my family close to me and I try to enjoy that full, my family is very proud to see me at this level.
“I came from a difficult place and so I hope and aspire to go further and higher.”
