John Carver interview ‘Now is the time to win football matches’

Nothing gets past our old mate John Carver, Saturday morning sees him declaring that ‘Now is the time to win football matches’.

Shame he wasn’t saying this 10 months ago and then he might still have a job!

Interviewed on BT Sport ahead of United’s match at Bournemouth, John Carver says that he thinks the new signings have improved the team and bemoans the fact that he wasn’t allowed to buy any players, plus the likes of Ben Arfa and Santon were let go.

Carver also believes that there are plans to spend similar money in summer 2016 as was spent in the last window.

John Carver speaking on BT Sport:

“Newcastle United  invested well in the summer and I thought that of the four players they brought in, three of them have been big hits.

“Especially Wijnaldum and if they can keep him great, I think there will be a big side looking and trying to get hold of him in the summer.

“They are trying to play more football and they have got better players,  they did spend £50million and so they should be better.

“The plan wasn’t just to spend all the money in one go, they decided that they were going to do it over two seasons and so I’m assuming that they will have the same amount of money next summer.

“Wijnaldum’s now playing in midfield and scoring from there, whereas last season I didn’t have anybody getting in the box and scoring from midfield. I had no money to spend and I lost two players in the January window, we didn’t bring anyone in.

“They have now got a centre-forward (Mitrovic) who can hold the ball up and he is decent in the air, various areas of the team where I see an improvement on what we had last season.

They are in better shape and the last two or three performances have been better, very unfortunate in that derby game to lose that game and other than the goalkeeper being outstanding they would have won against Stoke.

Now though is the time to win football matches, I have talked about improvements but now they have to prove it.”
