Bournemouth 0 Newcastle 1  Saturday 7 November 12.45pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Nat Seaton:

“A long way to come to see us only have a couple of shots buy hey WE WON!!!

“I’ve been harsh on Elliott in the past but have to say he had a great game.

“A smash and grab that makes the journey back a good one…”

Notts Toon:

“Someone call the police, Bournemouth have just been mugged.”

Paul Lyon:

“Previous performances have left us thinking, “We’ll play worse than that and win…” Case & point there today.

“Weathered the initial storm and scored from our first attack of any purpose. Then it was a case of getting to half time unscathed which needed Elliott to be at his best.

“Our inability to keep the ball meant it was much the same in the second half.

“3 valuable points!”

George Stainsby:

“Well… obviously great we won from a points and confidence point of view, and there were some positive performances.

“Mind, we need to create more. A lot more. But is this the beginning of the run?”

Ben Cooper:

“Great three points, awful performance.

“We got stronger as the game went on and they ran out of steam but we’ll have to do better than that against teams with better forwards.

“For today I’ll take the three points and forget everything else.”

Jamie Smith:

““Absolute highway robbery.

“Worryingly outclassed and saved by a fine performance from Elliot and perhaps a lack of experience from the home side who must be gutted.

“We will of course take the three points and escape from the drop zone but once again this must improve next time out.

“My blood pressure is not great.”

James Rutherford:

“Absolute heist. Past few weeks we’ve played well and not got the result, today was the total opposite. Very poor performance but it’s all about the three points.

“Man of the match has to be Rob Elliot. Come in for a lot of stick but what a performance today!

“Out of the bottom three and on the up…hopefully.”

Leazes Park Ender:

“Finally Lady Luck smiles on us, and boy was it needed. A massive win to drag weary limbs clear of the quagmire.

“United emerged unscathed from a bearpit of a ground, bloodied but unbowed. The streakiest of three points.

“Many will say we don’t care. We earned that after pretty rotten luck in that Derby game and then the assault on Stoke’s goal.

“We can breathe easy in the international break and go again, but McClaren must rouse his troops and build on this now forward momentum, albeit fragile.

“It was a lovely finish by Perez, who is our Rolls Royce. Elliot defies logic to play like that. Is he the most unlikely custodian we’ve ever had!

“Final word for BT Sport coverage. I felt it was unbalanced in the commentary and studio guests. Northerners clearly need to know our place, how dare we have a scrap of luck.”

Jamie Swan

“Massive result, poor performance.

“I shed no tears for Bournemouth having bossed the game after we battered Sunderland and Stoke in the last two but ended up with no goals, 3 conceded and only one point.

“3 huge points and out the bottom three – absolute dancer.”
