Young Newcastle players star in England Euro Qualifier win in Skopje
Young Newcastle players Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong have helped England off to a flying start in the European Qualifiers in Skopje on Thursday afternoon.
Macedonia are hosting the group games and whilst Freddie Woodman kept a clean sheet at one end, it was Adam Armstrong who scored the vital opening goal in the 67th minute.
The match staying 1-0 to England until the dying seconds when Maitland-Niles added a late striker to give a final score of Macedonia 0 England 2.
Adam Armstrong was substituted a few minutes after opening the scoring, whilst Woodman played the full 90 minutes.
To add to the result, Italy and Finland shared the points with a 1-1 draw in the other group game.
The remaining two matches are:
Sat 10 October 2015 England v Finland
Tue 13 October 2015 England v Italy
The top two in the group go through and England are now clear favourites to progress.
Both Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong are missing league football action with their respective loan clubs, as Coventry take on Fleetwood this weekend and Crawley play Leyton Orient.
