Previewing the Newcastle v Norwich match, TV pundit Jamie Redknapp says that Newcastle will always concede goals whilst Fabricio Coloccini is playing.
Not really what you want to hear when it is you most experienced player, captain and highest paid in the team.
Redknapp thinks that Norwich’s best chance is to attack because of Newcastle’s defensive limitations and he thinks that is what they do, potentially getting the crowd edge and getting at a fragile United team.
Despite this, Jamie Redknapp tips Newcastle to win the match and also get out of relegation trouble.
Despite Newcastle being rock bottom, Redknapp doesn’t think there is the kind of unrest at St James Park that you see at other struggling clubs.
If Newcastle don’t play well and get results against Norwich and Sunderland, he might see plenty unrest!
He identifies Wes Hoolahan as their big danger, comparing him with David Silva.
Newcastle are desperately missing a playmaker so we await with interest to see how Newcastle handle Norfolk’s David Silva and where United’s inspiration is going to come from.
Not forgetting as well the small matter of what input our captain will have on the game…
Jamie Redknapp speaking to Sky Sports:
“There have been signs that Newcastle are improving. I watched the Chelsea game when they were exceptional, should have won and were a bit unlucky…but thing is that you look at that now and say it was probably because they were playing against a poor Chelsea.
“I do think though that they will get it right, it doesn’t strike me as the unrest there has been at some other clubs. I think Newcastle might just edge this game against a Norwich team that I really like.”
Norwich’s David Silva:
“I think Hoolahan is a good player in midfield, he is the David Silva in their team, the one that dictates play. Some managers might think that he is a bit of a luxury but Norwich get the ball into him as much as possible.
“Defensively Norwich look strong and they play with no fear, like Bournemouth and Watford have done as well. I think there will be goals, I really do.”
“You look at Newcastle and their defence, when Coloccini is playing they well always concede, because that is the type of defender he is. He is rash, he comes out, at times he can be man of the match but there are also times when he will give the ball away and cost his team a goal.
“Norwich will make opportunities, they won’t sit back, I think that is the best thing to do against this Newcastle team, can you get the fans edgy, can you put them under pressure?”
