The Greyhound returns – Jonas Gutierrez back in La Liga action
Great to see on Saturday afternoon, Jonas Gutierrez making his playing return in La Liga after a gap of over seven years.
Jonas of course joined Newcastle United from Malaga back in 2008, a move that coincided with fellow Argentine international Fabricio Coloccini arriving at St James Park.
After exposing his poor treatment by Mike Ashley and Newcastle United when dealing with testicular cancer, the fan favourite was not offered a new contract at Newcastle.
Though happily he signed off in the perfect way with one of the two goals that ensured staying up on the final day against West Ham.
Deportivo La Coruna picked up the free agent in August and he has been building up his fitness over the course of the last two months.
With Deportivo leading 1-0 away at Granada, the moment came for the reintroduction of Jonas Gutierrez to La Liga.
The midfielder replacing Jonathan Rodriguez in the 58th minute.
The moment perfectly summed up by La Casa Del Futbol who tweeted:
‘One of those news stories that produces a smile almost without you realising.
‘Jonás Gutiérrez enters the field for Deportivo.’
Sadly, it wasn’t the perfect debut for his new club, with Granada equalising seven minutes later and the match ending 1-1.
Despite this, Deportivo have made a decent start to the season and are currently sixth in the table.
Good luck to Jonas Gutierrez and his new club.
