Steve McClaren says his boss has a ‘vision’ for Newcastle United

Steve McClaren has been buttering up his bosses ahead of the must win match with Norwich today.

The Newcastle Head Coach says that from day one he has been impressed with Lee Charnley’s ‘vision’ for Newcastle United.

When you have just been sacked for failing at a Championship club then I suppose you might well think you are seeing things when somebody then instantly offers you a three year contract to manage (head coach…) a Premier League club!

McClaren says that everybody is pulling together despite the ‘outside’ pressures, praising owner Mike Ashley as well as the players and Charnley.

A bit like Alan Pardew was prone to do when everything was going horribly wrong, Steve McClaren appears to also have the habit of then painting a picture that doesn’t really match what the rest of us are seeing.

The fans see a fragile team that can’t buy a win at the moment, with the added problem of fading badly in the second half even when they have started with better purpose.

Steve McClaren hopes that the first win is ‘just around the corner’, let’s hope he has got this part right today of his and Lee Charnley’s ‘vision’.

Steve McClaren:

“I have been impressed with Lee Charnley from day one, in terms of his vision and what he wants for the club.

“I have been at other clubs where you go ‘Oh my word, I am not getting much from that’ and you’re kind of on your own. Here though, not at all.

“That (Mike Ashley’s) backing is important, from Lee and from everybody.

“From the staff we have got that and especially from the players, that is important.

“When things are on the outside like that (pressure), the most important thing for us – sticking together, supporting each other and performing.

“Hopefully that win is just around the corner and our first opportunity for that is on Sunday.”
