Sir Alex Ferguson was part of a five man panel who have selected Steve McClaren and Newcastle United for a special award.

The League Managers Association Performance of the Week panel, comprised LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry.

They agreed that the Performance of the Week Award for the weekend of 17/18th October should go to Newcastle United following their outstanding 6-2 victory against Norwich City in the Premier League.

The Newcastle manager/head coach, Steve McClaren, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Giorginio Wijnaldum scored four goals, whilst Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic grabbed one each.

Steve McClaren of course first made his name in the big time when assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
