Newcastle loan player Alex Gilliead made it two goals in two games on Tuesday night at Northampton.

The England Under 20 winger scored the only goal of the match against Exeter on Saturday and once again opened the scoring on for loan side Carlisle United.

His right footed strike on 29 minutes was then unfortunately followed by three goals for the home side, Gilliead’s fellow Newcastle loan player Macauley Gillesphey being subbed straight after the third one was conceded.

Carlisle scored one more in the final seconds but it wasn’t enough as they went down 3-2.

To watch the latest Alex Gilliead goal and the other match highlights, go to the end of the article.

Elsewhere, it was a busy night for a number of other  Newcastle players out on loan, with another three in action as well as the Carlisle pair.

Over at Rochdale in League One, Adam Armstrong started alongside Joe Cole for the first time, however neither could find a winner for Coventry and neither finished the game in this goalless draw, Cole subbed on 57 minutes and the Geordie striker on 73.

Millwall grabbed a point at Blackpool with Newcastle’s Shane Ferguson playing all but the last seven minutes of this 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, over at Cardiff a great 1-0 win over Middlesbrough, though not so great news for Sammy Ameobi.

The Newcastle loan player had only made one start before getting his chance on Saturday against Preston.

However, Shola’s younger brother produced a shocking performance and was instantly dropped for tonight’s match.

Ameobi came on with 14 minutes left and the match at 0-0, the game eventually going in favour of Cardiff as a fortunate own goal four minutes from time gifted the three points.
