Newcastle 0 Stoke o  Saturday 31 October 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Leazes Park Ender:

“After the investment over the summer it is worrying that McClaren can’t really get a consistent tune out of Newcastle Utd.

“The table is precarious and once again we’re looking at other results to keep us in touch.

“There may well be a long way to go this season but this manager and group of players are not delivering.

“The next few weeks are critical. Any more slips and Mac will be under severe pressure and we’ll be staring second tier football in the face.

“Happy Halloween.”

Paul Lyon:

“A point they’ll be happier with than us.

“For all our huffing & puffing in the first half our lack of cutting edge up front meant there was never a sense of inevitability that we’d score.

“As the game wore on it became a bit of a non-event, the fear they might nick it set in our players and any fluency in our play went out of the window.

“Nowts each makes a change to recent scorelines but it’s essential we start turning possession into goals, especially at home.”

George Stainsby:

“Not conceding. Progress? Discuss.”

Ben Cooper:

“Solid in the middle today but poor on the wings and we ran out of steam in the last 20 minutes when Perez tired.

“Decent performance but no goals again.

“Only time will tell whether a point is enough from a game we dominated.”

Jamie Smith:

“Two points dropped and worrying signs.

“Butland was outstanding but we just never looked like scoring enough and I am sick of waiting for it all to click in the next game.”

James Rutherford:

“Got to be seen as two points dropped  but nice to keep a clean sheet.

“More heroics from Jack Butland, if it wasn’t for him Stoke would be below us surely!

“Missed Colback, can’t see the Anita/Tiote partnership working.

“Another promising performance, but promising won’t win us points.

Jamie Swan

“Played excellent again as far as I am concerned.

“Real promise as far as shape and intent.

“Perez and Mitro getting better and better.

“Sadly not the 3 points the performance deserved. Glass half full.”
