Mitrovic knows Sunderland will try to provoke but ‘I know how to score goals in derbies…’

Aleksandar Mitrovic says he will ‘keep my head strong’ and knows that the Sunderland players will try to provoke him.

After two yellows in his first two appearances and then a red card against Arsenal, Mitrovic has not picked up any more cards.

Hopefully it will backfire on Sunderland if they do try to physically impose themselves on the Serbian striker, he has the physique to take it and more than one or two Newcastle fans will fancy the idea of Mitrovic going head to head (fairly) with Lee Cattermole.

The number 45 says that he is adamant he doesn’t want to make the same mistake he made against Sunderland, which is obviosuly reassuring to hear, considering he is vital to the way Newcastle want to play.

The matches without Mitrovic have seen very little evidence of a plan B and with goals in each of the last two matches, both the striker and the team are showing signs of running into form, leaving aside that shocking second half collapse at the Etihad.

The Newcastle striker says that he has played in plenty of big games and derbies and knows how to play in them and score goals.

Whilst we may worry about one or two of our players’ mental (and physical) strength, I don’t think we need to have any worries on that score for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Speaking to the official club website:

“Sunday is an important game for our fans and our Club, and I hope we can win.

“There will be a lot of passion at the next game but I do not want to make the same mistake that I did against Arsenal, do something stupid.

“I want to stay on the level. I know they will try to provoke me but I will keep my head strong and try to score goals and help my teammates.

“It is a derby. I am only 21 but I have played in a lot of big derbies, big games, and I can say I know how to play these games and score goals in them.

“I hope I will continue with my goals and score in my first game against Sunderland.”
