Manchester City 6 Newcastle United 1  Saturday 3 October 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

Jamie Smith

“ An extremely weak collapse that shows the bad habits of conceding just before half time and going to pieces when conceding one, are still with us.

“However, undone by a world class player in a squillion pound team at a game we were never going to win is something to just move past.

“The run of games after the international break will determine whether this is a relegation waiting to happen.”

Paul Lyon:

“The difference in performance from the 1st to the 2nd half was as different as the black & white stripes on their backs.

“Man City seemed to take exception to our positive and confident 1st half display where we really should’ve had 3 in their net instead of the 1 which was levelled before half time.

“2 weeks to stew over what went drastically wrong, but hey we scored away from home & nee one got sent off…”

Nat Seaton

“CAPITULATION. Are we the only team in the PL that could go from being unlucky not to be wining at half time to being embarrassingly beaten? I think the answer is YES.

“A disgraceful defensive second half display has me shaking my head as I return home, not in disbelief, as we all know deep down this could happen, but in utter disappointment having been lifted by the first 30 minutes.

“What odds would we have got this morning on us being bottom without the mackems winning???”

Jamie Swan:

“Fantastic for 45 minutes. Complete and utter shi*e for 45 minutes.

“Difficult to quite comprehend such a collapse. I didn’t fancy Colo and co. up against Aguero and they unhappily made me feel like Mystic (mug) Meg.

“That microscopic dot of optimism post-Chelsea has just vanished.

“Pleased for Mitro and that’s it. If only the rest had his heart.

“This team screams relegation.”

James Rutherford:

“Started brilliantly, continuing on from where we left off against Chelsea, could have been out of sight in the first half.

“Shame there was a second half. Why does this happen every time we play Man City away in the league?! Another embarrassing defeat at the Etihad Stadium.”

Notts Toon:

“That second half was the worst defensive display in Premier League history.”

Leazes Park Ender:

“Whether you think he deserves time or not, Steve McClaren has taken us on our worst start to a season since the 1890s.

“Pulling clear of this bottom three is going to be a long hard road.

“Echoes of what happened to QPR last season is what scares me. They spent money and still went down.

The next few weeks will test patience. Doubtless Charnley will speak of not panicking, but I’m starting to worry. It very well might be classes a knee jerk reaction but as human reaction I am left wondering if Mac is the right man to lead Nufc.”
