Former Sunderland striker arrested in sex tape extortion plot investigation
Former Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse was one of four people arrested by French police in a sex tape extortion case.
The case involves video footage of sex that has been recorded on a mobile phone.
Cisse has now been released after questioning, with French prosecutors satisfied he was not one of the instigators, though he did know the others who are allegedly involved.
The alleged victim in the case has not been named ‘out of respect for their private life’.
The striker moved from Auxerre to Liverpool for a then club record fee of £14m in 2004, winning the Champions League and the FA Cup whilst at Anfield.
Djibril Cisse moved back to France with Marseille in 2007and then a year later he was loaned to Sunderland for the season.
That was Newcastle’s 2008/09 relegation season and Cisse scored in both derbies, United drawing at home and losing 2-1 on Wearside.
Now 34, Djibril Cisse is currently without a club after Bastia released him in the summer,
