Former PSV Coach ‘Newcastle a clever choice for Wijnaldum but could decide to move on’
Former PSV Coach Bolo Zenden says that Georginio Wijnaldum made a ‘clever choice’ when he came to St. James Park.
Zenden says it is easy to make a wrong move and that at Newcastle the midfielder can ‘work at his best’.
However, the former Middlesbrough and Sunderland players added ‘who says that Newcastle is his final destination’.
Zenden saying that another ‘big club’ could come along and tempt him away – you just knew it wouldn’t take long for the speculation to start after those four goals v Norwich!
The ex-PSV coach thinks that Wijnaldum has benefited by staying in Holland longer than many stars that come through, the midfielder able to develop maturity and leadership skills before moving to the Premier League.
Let’s hope that now there will be a determination to hang onto players such as Mitrovic and Wijnaldum if they continue to build on their early promise at Newcastle.
First of all though, let’s have them take Sunderland apart tomorrow.
Bolo Zenden talking to Omnisport:
“I rate him very highly because he’s a player who didn’t move from Holland at an early age. He stuck around to be more important, to become the captain of PSV, to become a leader on and off the pitch and settle down.
“He worked hard on and off the pitch and works as a professional should do and that’s why I really enjoyed the fact that he scored four goals (v Norwich). He’s a clever player and I was happy for him.”
“I think he made a clever choice. Sometimes you make a certain step and it’s the wrong one, but I guess at Newcastle he can work at his best and who says that Newcastle is his final destination.
“If he continues to work at his best he may choose to stay at Newcastle, or some other big club may come along and he could decide to move on.
“It’s always good to see when a player finds his feet quickly and maybe that’s got something to do with the fact the he opted to stay in Holland and be a bit more mature before moving on.”
