Steve Howey thinks that Newcastle have bought well with Aleksandar Mitrovic but maybe not so well with Florian Thauvin.
The one-time England defender says that the Serbian striker has the right attributes to be a success in the Premier League, but it depends on him channelling his aggression in the right direction, plus his teammates getting decent service to him.
As for Thauvin, Howey says he looks a ‘miss’ at the moment, with the Frenchman seemingly more bothered about his hair than ‘knuckling down’.
Steve Howey speaking to Talksport:
“I think he (Mitrovic) will be a hit, if he knuckles down. He’s only a young boy, only 21, but you saw in the first half against Manchester City that he caused them all sort of problems.
“He is a big lad and decent in the air, so if they get the ball in the box enough times he will cause problems.”
The right way:
“Unfortunately, this season the ball has not been coming into the box that much when he has played.”
“You want that passion, that desire, but it has to be done in the right way.”
“For me at the moment – miss. It was a lot of money for him.
“I watched Newcastle against West Ham and the first four times a camera went on him, he was messing with his hair.
“I’m thinking, ‘why don’t you just get on with the game and knuckle down?’ He just hasn’t done it.”
