David Beckham has led the tributes to Gary Speed on Saturday night.
Wales have qualified for the final of the Euros in France next summer, despite losing 2-0 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It wa Gary Speed who was credited with setting in motion the revival in the fortunes of Welsh football that has culminated in qualifying for France with one match still to go.
The former Newcastle midfielder took over the management of Wales in 2010 and in the year he was in charge, Wales moved further up the world rankings than any other country.
David Beckham said after Wales qualification:
“This man (Gary Speed) would have been so proud tonight…Congratulations to Chris Colman all the players and everyone involved in welsh football…”
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star using Instagram to post his message.
After Gary Speed’s sad passing, Chris Coleman has done a magnificent job to keep that momentum going, with Wales now joining Northern Ireland and England in the Euros finals.
