West Ham give injury/availability update on seven players ahead of Newcastle match
West Ham’s head of medical and sports science, Stijn Vandenbroucke, has updated on the injury situation at Upton Park ahead of the Newcastle match.
Vandenbroucke says that striker Enner Valencia will not be fit until November at the earliest, whilst Alex Song is looking towards the end of October, whilst Mauro Zarate is in line to be in the first team squad on Monday.
Vandenbroucke also revealed that Andy Carroll was involved in an 11-a-side training match to give him, as well as the club’s new signings, some vital match time ahead of Monday.
Vandenbroucke:
“We held an 11 v 11 match at Chadwell Heath to simulate match conditions, giving valuable minutes to the likes of Andy Carroll, Michail Antonio, Victor Moses and Nikica Jelavic.”
“We hope to have all the players back from international duty free from injury and it will be good to get the whole group back together on Friday, after the players’ day off, and then we will be fully focused on preparing them for Monday’s home game against Newcastle United.”
