Time has to come to terminate the contracts of these Newcastle players

I was sceptical about Steve McClaren being NUFC manager when he got the job, as the last six months or so of his tenure at Derby didn’t fill me with confidence.

Despite that, I wanted to give the guy a chance as Derby played good football before then.

I was hoping he would rid us of our total lack of ability when it comes to pressing teams and being able to pass the ball in a manner other than long distance punting towards other people.

The six games we’ve played this season have already proved my scepticism was rightly placed, although the more I think about it, the less he is to blame.

I am not taking all the blame off his shoulders, as there are things he’s not done well so far, I think it’s time we look at the people who are paid huge sums of money to do a simple job.

The players look disinterested, lazy, thoughtless and like they are just enjoying their pay day every week. Our ‘captain’ has been terrible this season, save for his performance at Old Trafford.

His lazy and gutless defending against Troy Deeney was laughable. The time and space he gave him to take the ball down for the second Watford goal was something I didn’t even see in my Sunday league game this weekend.

Is it any wonder the other players are following the captain’s lead with their laziness and lack of commitment?

My biggest concern is over the utter lack of desire to even receive the ball when we’re in possession. The very least I expect from players paid such exorbitant sums of money each week is that they try. And they aren’t doing it. Not even a little bit.

That was the sum of it under Carver and typified the end of Pardew’s reign. The managers can’t always be at fault and sadly there are clearly too many powerful players in the dressing room who simply don’t care. Their negative attitude is impacting on the other players and no manager can have an impact on it.

Aside from my opinion on wanting Mike Ashley to leave and McClaren’s appointment, there is a bigger and more important task at hand here.

Buying players has been an issue for us, but put simply we need to get rid of a huge number of players before we do anything else. Tiote, Sissoko, Coloccini, Cissé, Williamson and Obertan need to go. Terminate their contracts if needs be.

These Newcastle players are being allowed to rot the club from within. We have new players, new coaches, yet the same problems are still there.

We need a complete and utter clear out of the players who are in my opinion ruining the ethos and atmosphere within the camp.

Forget the money. Blood some youngsters, see people who care for the club play. I’d rather see 11 Haidaras play, who try and work and care even if he’s not quite good enough, than a load of money chasing mercenaries.

I’m aware it’s unrealistic, and I know it won’t happen, but ultimately what I suppose I’m trying to say is, if something drastic doesn’t happen in the next few weeks, we are going down. And it certainly won’t be Steve’s fault.

As always, our years of inaction will finally catch up with us and we’ll go down without the slightest of whimpers. And what’s worse, it’ll have been coming for years and we’ll deserve it.

Our journey from entertainers to empty shirts will be complete.
