This manager aspires to finish above Newcastle in mini Premier League table
Garry Monk is hoping that his Swansea team can finish above Newcastle this season…
Considering they finished 17 points ahead of Newcastle last season, have beaten United in six of the last seven matches (including this season) between the two clubs and are already six points ahead after only five matches, you would have thought that was the least of the Welsh club’s ambitions.
Monk sees Swansea as competing in a group of clubs which also includes Stoke, West Ham and Everton, as well as Newcastle, with Swansea having finished above them all last time.
He forgot to mention Southampton, who no doubt he sees in the same position, though the Saints finished one place above Swansea last season. After that it was the ‘big six’ at the top.
Of the group Garry Monk names, Stoke are keeping us company currently on only two points and as things stand, realistically we you would take it at the minute if we could be guaranteed this season to finish above a couple of the clubs he has named.
“We see ourselves competing with teams like Everton, Stoke, West Ham and Newcastle, as it was last season.
“Last season we managed to come out on top of that group.
“This year it will be just as hard to achieve that but we are competing with them on the pitch and we will see what happens this weekend.”
