Sheffield Wednesday gift game to Newcastle with line-up whilst NUFC set new Dutch record
Sheffield Wednesday have surely gifted the game to Newcastle United at St James Park on Wednesday night.
With United fans pre-occupied about how many changes Steve McClaren would make (5 was the reality), the visitors have named almost an entirely different team to the one who beat Fulham on Saturday.
The Owls make 10 (TEN) changes and Tom Lees is the only one who remains in the team.
Sheffield Wednesday starting 11:
Westwood, Hunt, Lees, Turner, Pudil, Wallace, Lee, López, Bannan, Forestieri, Nuhiu
On the other hand Steve McClaren has named this Newcastle team v Sheffield Wednesday, with five changes from the 11 who took on Watford.
Not sure if anybody has registered it yet but for the first time ever Newcastle name a team with five Dutch players in the starting 11, a record I’m guessing for English football overall.
Newcastle line up with:
Krul,
Janmaat, Williamson, Lascelles, Mbemba,
Anita, Wijnaldum,
Thauvin, Sissoko, Obertan,
de Jong
Those missing from the team who started on Saturday are Coloccini, Cisse, Perez, Colback and Haidara – though Perez and the Captain are named as subs.
The club info is that the team is the usual 4-2-3-1 formation with de Jong as a lone forward, with Thauvin, Sissoko and Obertan supporting.
Then Vurnon Anita and Georginio Wijnaldum as the deeper midfield pair.
Whilst at the back, Mbemba appears to be playing at left-back with no natural options available in the absence of the injured Haidara and Dummett.
Whilst on the bench:
Elliot, Mbabu, Coloccini, Barlaser, Gouffran, Perez, Toney
