Predicted Newcastle team v Sheffield Wednesday

Who do you think should be in the Newcastle team v Sheffield Wednesday?

The last round against Northampton was always looking a straightforward affair, home to a League Two team and with more or less a full squad to choose from.

Steve McClaren made nine changes that night and United ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.

The pressures are a lot different now and as well as a number of out of form players, the Head Coach also revealed a number of injuries/knocks on Tuesday.

Whilst Steven Taylor has had surgery and Cheick Tiote is training once again but not in contention for this game, Papiss Cisse also looks to be out with a reported back problem, though how much this is simply about taking him out of the firing line is anybody’s guess.

Steve McClaren also said yesterday that Jack Colack and Massadio Haidara are carrying knocks, which I take to be probably mean – they won’t play against Sheffield Wednesday but are fine for Chelsea.

So with no natural left-back replacement, I fancy that Newcastle could line up with a 3-5-2 formation with Rolando Aarons and Gabriel Obertan expected to use their pace and fitness to defend as well as attack on the flanks.

As well as those two, I can see the likes of Lascelles, Williamson, de Jong, Anita and Gouffran all getting the call.

McClaren also was keen to say that he’d had a number of first teamers insisting they want to play on Wednesday and not be rested, in this respect I fancy one of them is undoubtedly Tim Krul and I have a hunch he might get his wish to add a bit of continuity/quality to a much changed team, with Rob Elliot the only alternative.
