Newcastle United, Steve McClaren and two Welsh towns

Most of you will remember the excellent banner above, which was put together by Newcastle United fans last year.

It was during the ‘debate’ about Alan Pardew’s suitability, or otherwise, to manager Newcastle United.

The list of results in 2014 being used in a very visual and amusing way to undermine those attacking the Newcastle supporters who were sick of the results and football under the silver haired one.

Newcastle supporters haven’t called for Steve McClaren’s head, at least not yet.

However, the worries are there when you look at the shocking form both McClaren and Newcastle United have had in recent times.

In fact they could each be worthy of a new banner each.

These are the records for both Steve McClaren and Newcastle United respectively, over the course of their last 21 matches.

Steve McClaren:

Newcastle United:

Obviously we have a bit of a crossover with the last eight matches but these are the facts.

Steve McClaren in his last 21 matches as a manager/head coach has got 3 wins, 8 draws, 10 defeats.

The three wins were against Wigan and Blackpool when he was at Derby County (both relegated last season) and against League Two Northampton for Newcastle in the League Cup.

As for Newcastle United, in the last 21 games they have 3 wins, 3 draws, 15 defeats.

The three wins in NUFC’s case were against Northampton, West Ham who had nothing to play for last season and Aston Villa who just avoided relegation.

I’m not calling time on the Head Coach, though a lot to do with that is no credible manager would work under Mike Ashley’s daft set of parameters.

However, getting rid of the failing Pardew and Carver and appointing Steve McClaren to the Newcastle job is hardly a marriage made in heaven, more a meeting of desperate parties who have come together in their time of need.

Chelsea and Manchester City up next, howay the lads!
