Newcastle to move for Michael Keane in January – Reports
Newcastle United are to move for Michael Keane in January according to reports.
The 22 year old centre-back came through the ranks at Old Trafford but after a series of loans, he joined Burnley on a permanent deal at the beginning of the year for a reported £2m fee.
Keane had found his way to the first team blocked and his only Premier League game for Manchester United was as a substitute against Sunderland at the start of last season.
After loans at Leicester, Derby and Blackburn, the defender joined Burnley on an initial loan last August and then impressed enough for the Lancashire club to make the deal permanent.
Now an established first team player, Michael Keane has continued to impress this season and in the six Championship matches so far, he has added a bonus three goals on top of his defensive duties.
The Sun claim that both Everton and Newcastle have had the player watched and are interested in trying to land him in the January transfer window.
Steve McClaren said to have been impressed with the defender when he had him on loan at Pride Park.
Newcastle have both Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson now in the last season of their contracts, with no suggestion of a new offer for either player who are behind Fabricio Coloccini and Chancel Mbemba in the pecking order.
