Newcastle loan striker Haris Vuckic left Vale Park in a protective right boot on Saturday.

Shortly before half-time with Wigan trailing 1-0, Vuckic was helped off the pitch with what looked a potentially bad ankle injury.

Manager Gary Caldwell says that the club and player are now awaiting the results of a scan:

“It looks like an ankle injury, how bad it is we’re not sure yet.”

Port Vale went on to win the match 3-2, with former Newcastle players Jak Alnwick and Remie Streete on the winning side.

Haris Vuckic signed a surprise extension to his Newcastle contract before heading off to Wigan on a season-long loan, let’s hope the injury proves to be not too serious.

Elsewhere, on Sunday Remy Cabella started for Marseille in a 4-1 demolition of Bastia, the on-loan Newcastle winger was subbed on 65 minutes with the home side 2-0 up at the time.

After very good starts to their loan spells, it was misery for Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman this weekend.

Armstrong was booked as Coventry lost 1-0 to Scunthorpe, whilst in League Two Woodman had to pick the ball out of the net four times as Mansfield strolled to a 4-0 win.

Shane Ferguson got the final 20 minutes from the bench as Millwall won 3-1 at Crewe.
