Newcastle 2 Chelsea 2 – Instant fan/writer reaction

Newcastle 2 Chelsea 2  Saturday 26 September 5.30pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle, to talk about some aspect of the match:

George Stainsby

“I wonder if Chelsea think, oh, no… Newcastle.”

Paul Lyon:

“Played really well, easy to get behind the team playing like that. Very encouraging

“The equaliser reminded me of the time Drogba in the Cup, frustratingly.

“But nevertheless lots of positives to be taken from that performance.

“Think I’ll even watch MOTD this week.”

Nat Seaton:

“NUFC 2 – Subs 2.

“Well have to admit didn’t see that coming!

“Feels a bit like a defeat tbh.

“Great to see everyone giving their all (I was trying not to watch Sissoko too closely…).

“The opposition subs yet again make an impact. We may have spent £48m net this summer but if you can’t trust your subs to come on to ‘do a job’ then what does it say about the squad?

“PS a big thanks to the starting 11 for not spoiling my Saturday night this week…”

Jamie Swan:

“Huge improvement.

“Didn’t know what to expect from Mbabu – the lad was great.

“Mitro was excellent until his legs nearly fell off and Chancellor Mbemba and Big Daryl were super committed.

“ Ultimately it’s galling to lose 2 precious points, but nearly all 3.

“Sadly, the fact is we are now adrift of 4th bottom. Had we played with that passion in the games gone – we just might not have been.”

James Rutherford:

“Gutting to only come away with a point but got to be happy with the performance.

“Showed a lot more fight and passion than previous performances.

“Mitrovic and Perez playing in a 4-4-2 is the way forward.

“Special mention to Kevin Mbabu, looked better than Haidara has all season!”

Ben Cooper:

“Amazing what you can do playing attacking football with two strikers.

“Much better performance, excellent game.

“And we’ve got a left-back as well now…”
