Keep the Faith…

I was, like most Newcastle fans, sceptically pleased to hear the promises made by Mike Ashley in that infamous interview at the end of last season.

There was the hope that he had seen the error of his ways and would now WANT to install a decent manager and buy decent players  in sufficient numbers to make the difference.

I said at the time that we could only judge him after the fruits of the summer had been seen on the pitch after the transfer window had closed.

Jump forward a few months and we have a new manager … Decent? The Jury is still out for me.

A few decent purchases – but is it enough in number?? Again the jury is still out for me.

I do wish Steve McClaren would play 4-4-2 and really have a go at someone, or at least create a decent number of on target chances but we do have to give them a few games to gel.

I’m probably one of the more positive (hopeful) of supporters and after a dreadful start to the season – even accounting for the tough opposition – even I am doubtful whether enough has been done in the summer to stay in this league, let alone push to ‘win something’.

The defence should have been a much higher priority, as should have been an in-form experienced striker, but maybe that realisation is now plain to see and January will correct it? (I told you I was positive…)

So maybe Kevin Keegan was right when he said we would never win anything under MA ownership … and maybe it’s just too early to judge that. Given that we have been on the downward spiral for a long time and that it does take a wee while to correct and spread the cost (2 or 3 transfer windows?)

Time will tell for sure but I have to say, it is too early to write off this season. It’s a crap start and we are in a crap position but now – more than ever – NUFC need our support.

By all means boo after full-time but while there are minutes on the clock we need to support, encourage and lift the players as much as possible (they need it).

I, like you, cannot believe that Newcastle lost in the manner that they did against Watford but we do have the players to be doing a lot better than we are now and we have to ….

Keep the Faith.
