Joey Barton has given his verdict on Newcastle United’s latest signing, Florian Thauvin.
The one-time Newcastle midfielder thinks that the Marseille fans expected too much too soon from the young winger, a player who has long been regarded as a big future hope for the national team.
Talking on BT Sport, Joey Barton says that for Newcastle to replace Remy Cabella in the squad with Florian Thauvin, was a ‘fantastic bit of business’.
Now signed on for Burnley, Barton of course at one time was at Marseille, on loan for the 2012/13 season. He just missed out on playing with Thauvin as the winger was signed for Marseille in summer 2013.
Joey Barton states that St James Park is a ‘great place for him to show his talent’, let’s hope he is proved right as Newcastle were badly missing creativity last season and a player capable of beating his man.
“I think it is a fantastic bit of business (for Newcastle) to get Remy Cabella out and get Florian Thauvin in.
“Thauvin is the next big thing in French football.”
A great place to show his talent:
“It didn’t quite materialise for him at Marseille, and the fans turned on him a little bit, because I don’t think he lived up to what they thought he could be.
“This (Newcastle) is a great place for him to show his talent -I think he’s an exceptional young player.”
